Quanto sai della masturbazione? Ecco alcune delle cose principali che gli scienziati hanno imparato nel corso degli anni studiando l’amore per se stessi, incluso chi lo fa, perché lo fanno, come lo fanno e quali effetti fisici e psicologici ha su di noi.

La maggior parte degli uomini e delle donne si masturba. Tuttavia, gli uomini hanno maggiori probabilità di farlo e tendono a farlo più spesso delle donne [1].

La ricerca ha dimostrato che livelli più alti di testosterone sono collegati ad un maggiore desiderio di masturbazione, ma solo tra le donne; tra gli uomini, i livelli di testosterone non sono correlati al desiderio masturbatorio. Ciò suggerisce che i fattori che innescano l’interesse per la masturbazione possono essere diversi per uomini e donne.

La masturbazione frequente potrebbe essere potenzialmente benefica per la salute. La ricerca ha scoperto che, negli uomini, la masturbazione finalizzata al raggiungimento dell’orgasmo è associata a un migliore funzionamento del sistema immunitario.
